Editor's Review:
JewishFriendFinder is part of the huge FriendFinder network which hosts millions of members over its collective sites. Jewish Friend Finder says that you can search over 12,000 members worldwide, which is less impressive but still offers you plenty of people who are looking for friendship, dates or even love. The site also offers several chat options, videos, magazines and more, so there’s plenty to do in its new format.
For those of you familiar with the internet social networking scene, JewishFriendFinder operates in a similar format to Facebook. JewishFriendFinder allows you to create your own "Friends Network" which you invite members to join.
Once in your network, you can view your friends' activities, photo albums, and share news or announcements on the network bulletins. The more people on the network, the better your chances of hooking up. This is a very popular site, so by numbers alone you should manage to find like minded people.
Faith plays an important part in the ethos of this dating site. However, the site is not exclusive. Members are encouraged to share information about religious affiliation and practices, but the general feel is quite open to other cultures and lifestyle choices. For example you can search for members of the same gender; an option not provided by all these sites.
The extensive FAQ/help page covers general questions, questions on billing, your account, your profile, interacting with other members, features and much more. You can also call for help although email replies can be a little slow and there's no live help option. There are the usual FriendFinder fun networking features, such as Winks. These are a cute way of testing the water with another member before e-mailing. There are other matchmaking tools at your disposal such as the personality test, Dove e-mails, and New Members Matches.
The personality test is called the Personality Love Type Survey. Members fill in a fun questionnaire designed to find out their 'personality type', and then they are given suggestions of personality types that would suit them best. There is a nice detailed description of the results and around four personality type suggestions to match yours so you can keep a look out for them on your searches. Dove emails and New Member Matches both show you members who match you based on your selected preferences.
The membership options are tiered so that the more you spend the more you get. However, members are encouraged to add as much information to their profile as possible. This means members who joined for free can add things like video introductions, extra pages and a full profile, but are restricted from viewing those of others until they take out a subscription.
Search facilities are tiered in the same way. There is also a promise of better customer service and faster profile and photo reviews when you upgrade. Like many of the dating sites, there is very little information available before you sign up, which in itself might lead to accounts being created just as a way of finding out the subscription cost and features available.
You can accrue points by encouraging other people to sign up, uploading photos, or participating in the magazine. Once accrued, points can be traded for upgrades and prizes. Additional points are also available for purchase. Apart from collecting these points there’s plenty to do on the site.
If you’re bored with searching through profiles you can check out the chat rooms or even read the exclusive dating magazine. There’s a video section to the website (although when we logged on we got an error message), plus a blog to read when it’s updated.
Whilst in the past this was perhaps not a flashy looking site, it’s had a bit of a makeover and looks pretty good. Anyway, what it might have lacked cosmetically it more than makes up for in other areas, and that's what counts. When it comes to social networking on the internet, Jewish FriendFinder is worth checking out.
